Coaching with Darlene ....

What a dynamic lady!
Karen gave us this brief bio as a way of introduction.

Here is a short bio to help you get acquainted with Darlene Rogers, who
will be coaching us this week.
Darlene Rogers is the Director of Texas Harmony Chorus, a chapter of Sweet
Adelines International and an acclaimed music educator and vocal coach.
She has been teaching and coaching proper vocal production skills to choruses and
quartets in the barbershop idiom for more than three decades.
Darlene began her Sweet Adeline career in 1968 in Ponca City, OK. In 1970,
she became a member of the OK City Chorus, where she later became assistant director.
In addition, she was director of the Oklahoma Jubilee Chorus in Tulsa, as well as
a member of the 1975 Region 10 Champion Lady Luvs Quartet.
Darlene currently resides in Flower Mound, Texas where she teaches private voice lessons.
This outstanding and dynamic musical leader is in great demand as a coach and teacher
by many award winning choruses and quartets in both the Sweet Adeline and
S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. organizations, including the 1999 Sweet Adeline
International Quartet Champions, Rumors
Not only does she have an outstanding musical pedigree, she is a very approachable,
down-to-earth sort of person. We are very lucky to have access to her expertise.

Here's a clip of the beginning of her session on Choreographed Vocal Warm Ups.
'CHOCCOLATTE'

Darlene, renowned and internationally respected vocal coach from the US
also shared her skills with a special coaching session for our Savvy Septuagenarians.
This special group from our Chorus had an exclusive session with her
during the day at Faye’s house.
The whole of Chorus benefited from Darlene’s coaching on Wednesday night
at regular rehearsal but the super 70’s got a bonus session!!

How important is the vowel placement and our mouth shapes to produce a unit sound?

Christmas in July....

CHRISTMAS in JULY
The long range weather forecast predicts snowfall, remaining in drifts at
Farmborough Road on 24th July.
It is suggested that you dress warmly in scarves and beanies when you go out that night
to avoid chills. Stay inside out of the weather and activities such as singing and dancing are recommended for keeping up the spirits.
Exchanging hand-made gifts is also a good way to bring smiles and warmth,
so thinking of your chorus friends should cheer up the chilliest of evenings
I hear there was a 'Partridge in a Pear Tree'

And of course the ensuing verses some of which we have captured!

We all love Christmas carols - this was a great opportunity to have
a practice in the middle of the year.

Terri says ....

What a great night Christmas in July was last week!
Thanks to Karen for setting the mood with all her decor items, to Denise for her
Yuletide Physicals and thanks to the Section Leaders who gave presentations
to recap on the four weeks new members’ program.
Thanks also to the cooks and to everyone who rose to the challenge of creating
 an ornament for the tree.
We had fun, we worked hard and we played hard.
And thanks to Neryl for the photo's.

Busking in Globe Lane ...

Although it was a chilly and windy morning, we warmed up
singing for passersby in Wollongong last Saturday morning as an
awareness for our membership drive.
And, we made over $50!
We all enjoyed the coffee and sandwiches that Cozzie
provided afterwards.
We just had to sing him a thank you - thanks Cozzie!

Here we are ....
