Photo Exhibition in conjunction with Concert

Harmony and photography combine to highlight

Illawarra women

The Wollongong Harmony Chorus has been a staple of the Illawarra live music scene for the last 23 years, performing beautiful a cappella singing at community events and their own concerts.
Nina Kourea is a Wollongong photographer who is slowly creating an impressive suite of exhibitions documenting female community groups in the Illawarra.
Together they make a great match, and this weekend Nina will show a special one-day exhibition of the Wollongong Harmony Chorus as part of their concert at the Regent Theatre.
"I've always thought about singing and learning how to sing, and it's been interesting to see how it comes together," she says. "Visually, it's been challenging at times to display what these women do, but after three months some great images have come together of the women and their passion has come through."
Harmony Chorus musical director Jan McCarthy says she enlisted Nina's help to showcase their chorus group to a new and younger audience. "I've felt very comfortable with Nina, and when she walks in it's like she's another person who fits in. "Everyone keeps saying she needs to join the chorus now. "I understand the difficulty of taking photos of people when they're singing because we always have our eyes open or our mouths shut - if you freeze frame someone singing it's so hard to get them looking attractive."
Nina's exhibition will be part of the Wollongong Harmony Chorus concert at the Regent Theatre in Wollongong at 3pm, Saturday 26th April.
And here it is .....
