First bass practice for 2014 ...

The basses gathered for their first practice at Katrina's lovely home at Kiama Downs.
Here is the view from the deck!
We did do some singing before supper - it was a very productive practice!
We missed our leader Helen tonight and we all
offer her our condolences on the death of her father.
Thank you Jan for coming along in Helen's absence.

Moving on ....

In the last few months we have said goodbye to a
number of long time chorus buddies.
Sandra Hanson a stalwart of the bass section also
looked after the Chorus Makeup and was also
renowned for organising our chicken dinner at retreat.
Sandra also hosted the 'Daptones' - the Monday
singing group at her home in Dapto
And Jannie Black, also from the bass section - a party animal who
was part of our front row and boosted her height with
amazing high heeled shoes, even at rehearsal!
Jan and Sandra made a great duo at retreat presenting
some very memorable entertainment!

And most recently was Helen Curry from our Lead section.
Helen spent a number of years as Chorus Membership Chair and
was a notorious as the Christmas Elf at our shopping centre singouts.
None of us will forget the epic 'skits' that she orchestrated
with the other Helen!
We hope that we wont loose touch with these valued members and that
we'll see them back out our shows and chorus get togethers.

Fields of Gold

Here is yesterdays performance of 'Fields of Gold'
What will it be like when we all know it?
Jan says .....
As always, we're very grateful to all the people who
do the “behind-the-scenes work” on these coaching
weekends.  The people who unlock and lock the hall,
provide food and drinks for us and look after the risers.
Thanks to you all.
We couldn't do it without your support.
And, a heartfelt thanks from all of us to our Dynamic Duo
who work so hard helping us to become better singers!

February Coaching Session with Virg...

We had a busy weekend learning more about our
craft with Virginia and Jan.
We started on Saturday morning at Dapto Leagues Club
 and worked there until lunchtime.

We spent the morning after a fun warm up with Denise, running
through the songs for our planned concert in April.
Then off to Farnborough Rd for the afternoon to further
work on the songs and fine tune our presentation.
As usual Virg our dynamic coach from Christchurch NZ
encouraged and guided us especially in our
 'singers' posture and breathing technique.
It was coaching for both the chorus and Director Jan
so that we can work together to fix some of
our 'sync' problems!
Our 'Newbies' were introduced to Singlish and
shown just what a difference it makes to our sound when
the words are formed the same and sung together to
make those barbershop chords lock and ring!
We are working on performing in smaller groups,
listening to all the parts and taking personal responsibility
to match our voices to present a unit sound.
The audience observes and then makes comment
- hopefully positive, on the sound
 and performance of the group.
Next it will be your turn!
