Membership drive continues .....

Here are part of the team - Barbara and Evelyn 'on duty' in front of Woolies Shellharbour.
We handed out our pamphlets and chatted to shoppers but mostly they were pretty focussed on doing their shopping!
Let's hope we get some takers!

Singing Wollongong Mall

As part of our community 'awareness' and Membership drive we did some singouts in the Mall on Friday and Saturday 27th and 28th of January. We approached lots of likely ladies and handed out pamphlets advertising our FREE FEBRUARY offer.

On Saturday Robyn B had a nasty accident catching her finger in the door of the Information booth but thankfully our members were on hand to assist and she is 'on the mend' after a stint in Day sugery on Sunday. No photo evidence!

Performing 'Shelter' by Eric Bogle - a fitting song for Australia Day

We went on to the airconditioned comfort of St Mary's Hall to sing for the Citizenship Ceremony where 60 new Australians were officially welcomed by Gordon Bradbury, Lord Mayor of Wollongong.

Thanks to Jack Fenton for taking the video and stills of the days performances.

A new BASS for the chorus..........

Carols in Stubbs Rd Albion Park 2011.

The week before Christmas, a group of us met at Colleens in Albion Park and walked around to a nearby street that goes all out with Christmas lights - Stubbs Rd.
We spent an hour wandering up and down the street, taking requests and singing in driveways.

We had a great time and were much appreciated by the audience in the street.
maybe this will become an annual event???

Christmas Party 2011

We got together at Barbara Zalunardo's home for some fun and Christmas Cheer.
One of the skits was a rousing rendition of the 12 Days AFTER Christmas!

And Jan (looking like she is possessed by the Christmas Spirit??????)sang a ditty about a not so nice sister who 'got rid' of most of her family by devious methods!
Rippity tippitty Teee......

A great time was had by all!

Family and Friends Concert at Wollongong TAFE

On the 12th of November we held a 20 year Anniversary Concert.
Invitations were sent to all previous Directors, members and friends of the chorus along with current members, thier families and friends.
The hall at the TAFE was set up by Neryl and her band of willing workers and looked great.
Here is a 'snapshot' of the wonderful display of Chorus Memorabilia set up by Karen, Jill, Neryl and Stephanie. All sorts of bits and pieces from T-shirts and photographs to Peter Nugus' 'Dancing Partner' from Arthur Murray days!

The first part of the program highlighted the current competition repetoire of Jazz Me Blues and Once Upon a Time with members wearing our black and green competition costume
This was followed by an invitation to family members to join us for the Family Chorus and the performance of our new 'mass sing' song Shelter.

Our new black velvet tops were worn for the first time in the second half of the program and looked very smart with their individual coloured flowers.

The six 20year members Marianne, Anne Dunn, Jill, Isla, Pamela Samms and Ilona were presented with their badges and went on to cut the cake which we enjoyed with coffee after the program (and went on to finish at rehearsal the next week!)

At the conclusion of the program, former members were invited to join us on the risers to sing 'How we Sang today!'

It was great to catch up with old friends - Peter is enjoying getting together with Jan and the two Helens!

And Anne renewing memories with Yvonne McColl, an early Director and Florence Rankin a chorus member from the 90's

Now we move on to the next twenty years!

Wollongong Harmony celebrates 20 Years!

We made the front page of the Weekender in the Mercury along with a two page spread.

Here we are resplendant in our yellow shirts - at rehearsal having fun.

Battle of the Choirs

On the 6th of November we joined 6 other choirs to sing at this Rotary Charity Event.
The pavilion at Kiama showground was crowded with an appreciative audience who enjoyed the music.
It was great to see so many young enthusiastic people singing in choral groups.
We wowed the audience with Fame, Can you feel the Love Tonight? Sailing and finished our package with Good Ol'A Cappella.
We won the Viewers Choice and were given a commendation from the judges.
The overall competition was won by the Choir of the Southern Lights.

Here we are singing 'Can You feel The Love Tonight?'
Be patient while it loads...

The program finished with the massed choirs singing 'Music has brought us together music has made us ONE!'

HALLOWEEN HIGH TEA

On Sunday 30th October Gelenda opened her home for a Halloween High Tea as a 'Baby Shower' for Jessica. The house was decorated with cobwebs and bats and the orange iced cup cakes where amazing.

We love an excuse to dressup and as you can see, the two Helen's excelled as usual!

The rest of us made an effort too with lots of witches and ghoul or two in attendance.

Membership Matters...

Sweet Adelines Anniversaries

TEN years for Helen Fahy, Jan McCarthy, Yvonne Kunkler, Jan McCann and Rosey Wright.

ELEVEN years for Kath and Maree Pollard and Pat Richardson

TWELVE years for Faye Stillwell, Helen Curry, Beth Bell and Denise Foye

FOURTEEN years for Colleen Coad, Janny Black and Karen Wilmott

And Lyn Schofield celebrates SIXTEEN years as a member of Sweet Adelines.

WELL DONE EVERYONE

Members for 20 YEARS!

Six of our members have celebrated their 20 year anniversary as members of Sweet Adelines International and members of our chorus.
Congratulations go to:
Anne Dunn, Jill Vickery, Marianne Mathieson, Isla Melville-Jones and Ilona Barr.
Well done girls!

Call out the Ambo's!

Judiths tumble backwards down the stairs after rehearsal was luckily not serious although it sure looked like it at the time!
The ambulance officers were puzzled to see the crowd of unlookers at 10.45pm.
We soon told them that were not a 'crowd' - we were her friends!

Here she is the next week dressed for any eventuality with crash helmet, kneepads and a cushion to pad her nether end.

We are so glad you weren't too hurt Judith!
(But there was no need for a repeat performance a couple of weeks later!)

Retreat 2011

Retreat 2011 was a bit of a different atmosphere as unlike other years, we weren't preparing for competition.
Virginia joined us from NZ and we worked on our overall performance.

We trialed a different learning approach and worked on learning our new song 'Shelter' in sections then all together as a whole chorus.

After dinner on Saturday night, there was great dance music provided by our retreat 'social committee' as a lead up to our movie extravaganza!

It was amazing to we 'oldies' to realise that some of our younger (and older) members had not ever SEEN the epic 'SOUND OF MUSIC'

Of course we all sang along!

A new member for the riser team!

We give a great big thank you to the guys who come along and put up the risers for us!
They are always there to assist to put up the risers before rehearsal and when the risers need to be transported to and fro from other venues.
So thanks to Craig Palmer, Norm Barr and Gary McCarthey.
Norm must be due for his 20 year badge?

There is a new apprentice - no not Anthea but Bob Beesley! Welcome Bob.

Norm shows him the ropes at rehearsal.

A thanks goes too to Peter Shoobridge who has also assisted with the risers in the past.

Christmas in July

In July, Karen stepped in to direct and we celebrated Christmas in July when Jan travelled to the US to attend the SAI Directors Seminar.

BAZINGA sang for us as part of our entertainment for the evening prior to a supper of Christmas fare and mulled wine!

Another 'ernest'item presented by Rosey, Gwenda, Jane, Janey B, Lyn W, Louise, Nerida and Sandra.

This is 'Fhoney M' presenting their version of Boney M's Mary's Boy Child
