Convention Virgins
Newer members gear up for their first convention.
This weekend we had an intense coaching session as part of the lead up to the Region 34 Sweet Adeline Convention.
Once again Virg has joined us to help fine tune our barbershop skills as we aim high for Newcastle next weekend.
Judith and Virg present our 13 Retreat Virgins with their special 'Survival' packs to ease them into their first competition as Jan gives hugs all around.

Flapper Flo comes to town ...
Last night at rehearsal, Jan and Jill were surprised to find that the risers were full of Flappers!
Here are a select few - Pamela in her fringes, Linda looking the part and trio Jane, Rosemary and Louise all dressed up ready to party.
And Sue G is looking very swish in her Uggies while a gathering of 'likely ladies' Val, Wendy, Jane, Rosemary, Louise and Robyn B are also set to go - love the 'jazz hands girls!'.
Here's two Baris in Blue - Karen and Lorraine - ready to 'play it hot!'
The whole gang is ready to go 'down to Louisiana and - my oh my - hit that jazz club ... GO GIRLS. Sorry I missed the party

And the category is .... SHOWMANSHIP
Members have enjoyed a visit from Lynne Smith this week - she is a great motivator.
She has helped us polish our performance in preparation for the upcoming Convention in Newcastle.
We have practiced being more in the moment while actively telling the story of our songs with our SHOWMANSHIP.
Remember three things Lynne says - "Sing better, watch Jan's hands and most of all HAVE FUN".
Thank you Lynne! We'll try our best.
See you in Newcastle.

The 'SHIRLEY' moves ....
We all remember Shirley doing her - 'Where's that Jolly Jumbuck' move during Watlzing Matilda.
As a tribute to Shirley, from now on, in the moves where we direct our focus to an individual on the risers will be known as a 'Shirley Move'.
Here are 4 of our 'Shirley Moves' for Good Old Acapella....
VALE - Shirley Perry
It is with sorrow that we say goodbye to our friend Shirley Perry.
Shirley had been a member of our Chorus for almost 20 years and she will be sadly missed on the risers.
She was a character, renowned for her dry sense of humour and requests for that extra breath to the plan!
Shirley had been ill over the last few months and was disappointed to have to report to Jan that she would be unable to join us at convention this month in Newcastle.
Chorus members were honoured to be asked to sing at her funeral.
We were joined by past members Shirley Purvis and Wendy Blunt in singing Candle on the Water and Irish Blessing as we said our farewells to our good friend Shirley.
RIP Shirl, may you sing with the angels.
Coaching at Edmund Rice
Here are the movers and shakers Jill, Jan and Virginia.
They kept us all busy on our coaching weekend in early April.
We are gearing up for convention so spent most of our time revising and working on our two comp songs.
This group of our newer members were pleased to receive their membership forms from Sweet Adelines International - you are all legal for Convention now guys - congratulations.
As part of our education, we took it in turns to listen and evaluate the rest of the chorus as 'judges'. It was a great learning process and it has made us more aware of the need to take personal responsibility for our unit sound by vowel matching, turning our diphthongs and holding out the ends of phrases.
It's all systems go now with Convention just a month away.
A new BASS
What happens at Bass practice, stays at Bass practice - except for the Blog!
Our mate Judy has seen the light and moved on from the Lead section to join the Basses!
It's great to have another Bass on board. Welcome Judy.
There are a few bottles on the table and one BIG wine glass but it was AFTER we had done some good practice thanks to Jess and Helen.
Thanks for the great photo Faye

Singing with Santa
More carols in the mall at Dapto.
Santa sang along and it was great to catch up with Shirley Purvis, a former chorus member, who joined us on her scooter. Merry Christmas everyone.

Practice with the guys ....
There are some local guys who are singing Barbershop together and they came along to rehearsal for a few weeks to sing with us. They appreciated the help that Jan gave them as they learn and practice their craft.
