Australia Day 2014

As part of our commitment to the Wollongong Council, very year
we sing at the Citizenship ceremony.
This year it was at the Town Hall and we sang songs of Australia
to welcome the new Aussie citizens to Wollongong.
On Australia Day it is a carnival atmosphere in Lang Park near Belmore Basin
in Wollongong and it was our pleasure to perform for the audience there.
Jan always gives a bit of a run down and explanation of our songs.
Luckily this year it wasn't too hot so we enjoyed our performance
under the marquee.
Telstra had a caravan set up by the Basin and very kindly
squashed us for a photo on the steps.
Another year of WHC excitement has begun!

Daytime Singing groups

The group called Daptones started up a couple of years ago at
Sandra Hanson's place when some chorus members decided to form
a daytime singing group that meets on Monday afternoons.
This gives members a chance to work on chorus songs and
vocal technique in a small group situation.
They invited Jan along to help with this and a big improvement
has been noticed in both individual voices and the confidence
to sing in a smaller group where "there's nowhere to hide"!
The four voice parts have usually been represented,
but with Ginny moving to Perth this year
we thought we may be without a tenor.
However, Alison C has been able to start coming, so that is wonderful!
Our regular attenders number around 12.
Since Sandra left the chorus we have been meeting at
Sue G's place at Horsley, to keep it in the same area.
Here they are celebrating Christmas
Friday singing at Pat's has been a popular addition
to the "extra singing scene" since starting up over
two years when we decided to give chorus members
a chance to do some extra work on songs in
preparation for a trip to contest.
We have a group of around 10 regulars but we often
have other chorus members coming along to join in when they can.
Unfortunately we rarely have a tenor along on Fridays,
but we manage pretty well without.
Pat always provides some afternoon tea so it has
become a social occasion as well where we can have a chat
and get to know each other better.
The range of topics discussed over that cuppa on a Friday
                      is always very interesting!                     Jan

Carols at Barb's

This year we had to cancel our 'street sing' in Stubbs Rd
but on the night of our Christmas party
we sang for Barbara's neighbours
and here we are .....

After a great BBQ cooked by Barb's family the singing began.
You can see the whole performance on the Christmas DVD.
'Sister' gave us a couple of songs.
This is a new combo - do they have a name?
'Sing me some of that JAZZ!'
GOTA girls do 'Scarlet Ribbons' and 'Kokomo'
Jill has been our Chorus Choreographer for such a long time.
She has decided that its time to spend more time with
her family so she is stepping down from the position.
And a great job she has done too.

THANK YOU JILL!

Christmas Singout at Stockland Shellharbour

Members needed a coffee to revive after negotiating their way from the carpark to
the meeting place - the Chocolate Shop in the outdoor dining area at the City Square.

Here we are 'warming up' on the outdoor City Square stage prior to moving inside
to entertain the Saturday morning shoppers.

Jan's new 'Bling' - bet it came from Hawaii - looks great!

And here's a new audience - Mr Candy Cane!

Speaking of Mates Rates - did we get any????

Look who found us outside Wollies.
Hi Kath and Maree!

I was given a ducky to hold - as 'I was part of the entertainment'!

I think this might have been the fellow who was 'singing' with us outside!
